YouTube's BIG Warning: Use Ad Blockers And You May Get Blocked From Watching Videos
YouTube is warning users that their video playback could be blocked, if they continue to use an ad blocker. Here are the details.

YouTube has ads, and to avoid them, you either need to resort to ad blockers or buy the YouTube Premium subscription. However, the company is now intensifying efforts to block the former. It has reportedly launched a “global effort” to crack down on ad blockers by either blocking the ad blockers directly or suggesting users try YouTube Premium, The Verge reports.

Should you encounter YouTube’s new pop-up that appears when it detects an ad blocker on your system, you will primarily see two options: to “allow YouTube ads” or simply “try YouTube Premium.” The page also notes that “video playback is blocked unless YouTube is allowlisted or the ad blocker is disabled.”

According to The Verge, one of its employees can’t view videos at all if this pop-up appears, and YouTube “fully blocks” them, reminding them that this action violates YouTube’s terms and conditions. This could indicate that more users might face similar treatment soon, and you may not be able to watch YouTube videos if you are using ad blockers.

Previously, ignoring the pop-up and closing it could have resolved the issue, only for it to reappear later. However, with reports now claiming that YouTube is fully blocking video playback, we might have to bid farewell to ad blockers after all.

Since then, YouTube has also updated its support page, which you can read here. “If you use ad blockers, we’ll ask you to allow ads on YouTube or sign up for YouTube Premium. If you continue to use ad blockers, we may block your video playback. To avoid the interruption, allow ads on YouTube or sign up for YouTube Premium,” YouTube notes. This puts things into perspective. YouTube is warning users to stop using ad blockers or risk being blocked from viewing videos.

In addition, another report by Android Authority claims that new ad blockers have emerged, claiming they can bypass YouTube’s new ad blocker detection tech. However, the publication notes that this is not the case with most of them, as you still end up with the YouTube ad blocker pop-up.

On that note, YouTube’s primary source of income is ad revenue, and when users block them using ad blockers, it causes a significant hit to both creators and YouTube itself. So, it is not surprising to see YouTube taking the charge against something that threatens its key money-making model.
