After the coaching institutes in the district failed to present their registration paperwork, the Gautam Budh Nagar District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) issued orders to close such entities immediately. The documents in question are required to be presented as per the provisions of the UP Coaching Regulation Act. According to TOI, the education department began a push in March of this year to review the registration records of several coaching establishments in the district.
This course of action was taken months after the coaching centres were sent notices by the government requesting that they register under the Act, however, they did not. The department issued letters to 54 coaching institutions in Noida and Greater Noida in June, but only 20 answered.
DIoS Dharamveer Singh as quoted by TOI claimed that despite many notices being issued to the institutions, they failed to respond. “It is a matter of safety and security for the students. To run any coaching institute, the registration must be done with the district administration,” he added. A survey of coaching institutes in Noida and Greater Noida was conducted by 12 teams that were constituted by the department on November 9.
According to the DIOS, coaching facilities with less than 50 students must pay a registration fee of Rs 10,000, while those with more than 50 students must pay a registration fee of Rs 25,000. There are more than 200 students registered at a number of these coaching institutes. The owners of such establishments have been urged by officials to refund the students’ advance fees. However, no official directive has been issued in this regard.
After a coaching facility in Delhi caught fire on June 15, injuring numerous pupils, registration under the UP Coaching Regulation Act became a mandatory requirement.
