New Delhi: A court in Raipur on Tuesday granted bail to former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi in connection with the murder of a NCP functionary in 2003.
Jogi was arrested on Monday for conspiracy and the murder of NCP state treasurer Ram Avatar Jaggi in June 2003. Jogi pleaded for bail on the basis of poor health.
The Congress leader’s lawyers alleged that the state government had arrested his client to prevent him from campaigning for the Lok Sabha by-poll in Rajnandgaon on March.
They said Jogi was a heart patient and an accident had paralysed him below his waist.
The government’s lawyer told the court of Additional District Judge B L Tidke that Jogi was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Jaggi's son and was not related to the Rajnandgaon by-poll.
Satish, Jaggi’s son, has alleged in a police complaint that Jogi and his son Amit were involved in the murder. Jogi was then Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
