The slugfest between BJP MP Kirti Azad and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reached Parliament where the two leaders spoke on the alleged irregularities in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Soon after Jaitley made a statement in the Lok Sabha claiming innocence, Kirti Azad, the MP from Darbhanga in Bihar and a former Indian cricket player, asked for a probe into the allegations. "Instead of disrupting proceedings, Congress should instead demand a time-bound, CBI and SIT-monitored probe," said Azad.
With both Houses of Parliament witnessing massive uproar over allegations against Jaitley's involvement in financial irregularities in the DDCA during his tenure as the body's president, the Finance Minister clarified his stand in Parliament.
Rubbishing the charges against him, the Finance Minister called the charges against him baseless and wrong. "SFIO (Serious Fraud Investigation Office) has accepted the expenditure by DDCA on building new stadium and found nothing wrong," he said.
He also took on the Congress on the 2010 Commonwealth Games corruption cases pointing out the renovation of Jawaharlal Nehru and Major Dhyanchand National stadiums cost several hundred crores compared to a much smaller amount to construct a new cricket facility at the Firozshah Kotla.
Azad, too, agreed on the corruption during the Commonwealth Games but added that the alleged DDCA scam could not be overlooked.
Following Jaitley's statement, Congress members walked out of Lok Sabha in protest.
Jaitley has filed Rs 10 crore civil defamation case in the Delhi High Court against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and 5 other AAP leaders for false statements against him and his family members. He also field a criminal defamation suit against the AAP leaders in the Patiala House Court. Apart from Kejriwal, other AAP leaders who have been named in the suit are Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpayee.
Criminal complaint has been filed under section 200 CrPC for commission of offences under section 499, 500, 501,502 IPC R/W section 34 & 35 of the IPC for making/writing/publishing false and defamatory statements/allegations in the print and electronic media against the complainant by the above named respondents/accused persons.
Soon after Jaitley filed a civil and a criminal defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with five other AAP leaders, the AAP hit back at him with more scathing remarks.
Vowing to uproot corruption, AAP leader Ashutosh likened the irregularities in the DDCA with those of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. "Arun Jaitley is the BJP's Kalmadi. BJP is neck deep in corruption, we will fight it out politically," he said while referring to Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi who is accused of corruption. He added that the AAP is exploring all legal options in the case.
