Audi Hit-and-run Case: Imposter Goes Missing After Getting Bail

New Delhi: In a twist to Audi hit-and-run case in Ghaziabad, the alleged surrenderer had ostensibly used somebody else's documents to pose as Ishaaq Ahmad and claimed in the court to be behind the driving wheel. The surrenderer has now gone missing as he was out on bail.

Ishaaq Ahmad, a Bareilly resident, whose documents were used by the surrenderer in the court, has now asserted that he was nowhere near Delhi-NCR on the day of said accident.

In fact, if Ahmad were to be believed, he was in Gujarat and has been travelling since January 6, 2017.

“All the documents are under my name. But the photo is not mine. I was in Ahmedabad when the accident took place. At the time of the incident, I was loading goods on my mini truck,” Ishaaq Ahmad said.

Ahmad drives a mini-truck and carries goods from one city to another. He is in Assam right now and would be returning to Bareilly on February 5.

Meanwhile, Audi Owner Dr Manish Rawat, a neurosurgeon at Safdarjung Hospital, has also been missing after the incident.

However, when Ahmad confronted Qadri, he denied doing any such thing. Later, Ahmad started getting a lot of calls from media asking him about his alleged involvement in the Audi hit-and-run case. That is when Ahmad smelt conspiracy and called Qadri again.

Ahmad, this time around took Qadri in confidence and then quizzed him about the entire matter. “I asked him to be honest. I took him in confidence and asked if he had used my documents. I assured him of sorting out the matter if he tells me the truth. I also threatened him of getting a case registered against the culprit,” Ahmad explained.

He further claimed that Qadri gave his documents to save someone else and got money in return. Ahmad is yet to speak to Ghaziabad police.

Amid this confusion, questions have also been raised about the conduct of Ghaziabad police. Uttar Pradesh DGP Javeed Ahmad tweeted clarifying the man himself came in the court to surrender. In his tweet, Ahmad said, “#Gzb Audi accident d fake driver not arrested by police. He surrendered in court, accepted crime, got bail. We are probing the matter.”

Salman Taj, SP City (Ghaziabad), said the police are unable to trace the doctor. He said he heard Ishaaq Ahmad claiming he was in Gujarat on the day of the accident. “It’s too early for us to say whether the doctor was himself present on the accident spot. I have called my team for further investigation.”

Police will issue a non-bailable warrant against the doctor if he doesn’t join the investigation. They will investigate the man who surrendered in the court with Ahmad’s documents.
