Big B's films can't run tax-free: Cong

New Delhi: The Congress has strongly opposed tax free status given in Uttar Pradesh to actor Amitabh Bachchan’s films. The party said on Monday that films featuring Amitabh Bachchan, his son Abhishek and wife Jaya should not be given tax relief in UP during the election period as it was against the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission.

The party has also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Commission, Congress spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said.

"Abhishek starrer Guru and other tax free films of the Bachchans should not be given relief in the election period as it was against the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission," Singh said.

As Amitabh is actively participating in Samajwadi Party advertisements and campaigns, films featuring him and his family should not be screened tax free, he said.
