New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday defended itself after a complete washout of the Monsoon session. The party that has been demanding Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation over the CAG report on coal blocks allocation, blamed the Parliament deadlock on the government.
"We did not want a straight discussion. We had three demands and we limited it to two demands and left the demand for discussion. But the government did not accept it and Parliament could not work," Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said.
The BJP said it will now take the protest to the streets. "Most of the political parties are with us on the demand for the cancellation of coal block allocations. From today this fight is going out of Parliament. We will plan how to take this issue to the people in the villages," Swaraj said.
Sushma Swaraj also slammed Leader of the House Sushil Kumar Shinde for the government's response on the Kokrajhar violence. "The government replied to the Kokrajhar violence in a very casual way. We are sad about the government's response on it," she said.
Pointing to the Prime Minister's statement, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said, "It's sad to see that steps to stop corruption and stop corruption in coal blocks allocation was nowhere in the Prime Minister's statement."
