New Delhi: In the wake of Deputy CMO YS Sachan's mysterious death in Lucknow jail, BJP on Friday alleged that those involved in criminal activities in Uttar Pradesh appear to have the support of Chief Minister Mayawati and announced protest demonstrations across the state.
"The events unfolding in Uttar Pradesh show how BSP is unashamedly watching the rape of women and the murder of innocents. The people there are living in a state of fear," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters.
Sachan, who was an accused in the murder of a Chief Medical Officer, was found dead with 11 violent marks on his body.
"Mayawati is like a dictator watching these events from her palace. This is a history-sheeter government.... Doctors, teachers, women and others are getting killed," Naqvi alleged.
"It is my charge that those involved in criminal activities have direct links with Mayawati," he added.
A delegation of BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh will meet the Governor to register its protest against the deterioration in law and order situation in the state.
Asked if the BJP would demand imposition of President's Rule, Naqvi said the people should "wait and see".
"It is for the first time that the IAS and IPS officers are announcing the removal of ministers," Naqvi said, explaining that officialdom had taken over the state.
He also took a dig at the Congress, saying its "yuvaraj"- a veiled reference to Rahul Gandhi- was indulging in "photo-sessions" in the "fields, farms and dalit households" of UP while the party is silent on criminal acts.
"BJP will launch agitations across the state to protest against the increase in crime in UP," he said.
