New Delhi: In a surprise move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said that it will release its poll manifesto on April 7, the day elections begin.

The party is allegedly battling infighting between Team Narendra Modi and Team Murli Manohar Joshi on the content of the manifesto. Team Modi reportedly feels that the manifesto, which is being prepared by Joshi, lacks the development quotient and has proposed some last-minute changes to it.

The BJP, however, rubbished talks of rift between the two groups. "This is all rubbish. The manifesto has been delayed due to the inability to get dates from all the senior leaders. Hence, 7th is fixed," spokesperson Nirmala Seetharaman said.

Poll manifestos are usually released days or weeks ahead of elections and it delineates what the party intends to do if it is voted to power. The Congress and the Samajwadi Party have issued their manifestos.

The BJP, however, has released a Delhi-specific manifesto and on Thursday, it issued a manifesto for the North East region, wherein it stated that it will develop the area as a BPO hub if voted to power.

The Delhi manifesto made an array of promises like granting full statehood, reducing power tariff by 30 per cent and controlling price rise within one month if BJP is voted to power.

The party, which had lost all the seats to Congress in 2009 Lok Sabha polls, said it will set up a helpline for the national capital to receive complaints of corruption which appears to be on the lines of the call centre launched by the then AAP government in January.

It also promised to bring police, DDA and other land-owning agencies under one roof to streamline governance.
