New Delhi: Senior BJP leader LK Advani moved an adjournment motion on the black money issue in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Speaking on the issue in the House, Advani said that the 'dirty money' was going in terror incidents. "The world realises that a major part of this dirty money is going in terror incidents. This has led to the UN passing international convention against corruption," Advani said.
Advani also said that tax evasion was the reason why black money has been stashed away in foreign banks.
"High tax leads to black money being kept in foreign banks. Tax evasion is the reason," Advani said.
He also brought to notice that this was the first time that black money was being discussed in Parliament.
Advani claimed that due to no action against the culprits, India has become a soft state. "We should recognise that because we haven't taken any action against the guilty in the black money cases, we are being seen as a soft state," he said.
Calling black money a part of corruption, Advani said, "The effects of corruption is the most devastating in the developing world. Corruption is a key element to inefficiency."
Quoting a report of the Global Financial Integrity on black money, Advani said, "Indians have an amount of Rs 25 lakh crore black money is in Swiss banks."
Questioning the government's delayed action on the black money issue, Advani appealed to the government to act on the issue effectively. "I would like to ask the Finance Minister to bring back this money and use this money for the development of over 6 lakh villages."
"Why has the government delayed action on black money? Even the Supreme Court has felt the government has not been as proactive on the matter as it should have been. We want the government to publish white paper on black money at the earliest," Advani said.
Appealing to the government to give details on the names given by French government, Advani said, "It will be shameful if we come to know about these through some whistleblower like Julian Assange of Wikileaks did some time back."
Advani also quoted the Ramlila Maidan Ramdev crackdown by the Delhi Police, saying, "The incident was shocking and sad."
