BJP leader Sushil Modi has praised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the latter’s attack on dynasty politics, fuelling speculations of a possible alliance between the two former partners ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Modi, who served as Kumar’s deputy for several years in Bihar, said the state unit of BJP would not have any problem if the top leadership decides to go with the Janata Dal (U) chief. Meanwhile, top Bihar BJP leaders including Modi have been called to Delhi by the party’s high command.

“Nitish Kumar spoke openly on dynasty politics. The Bihar BJP with the Centre’s decision. Will accept the decision of the central leadership,” the BJP leader told CNN-News18.

Kumar, who broke ties with the BJP in 2022 to form the government with Mahagathbandhan allies Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, earlier thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Centre’s decision to confer Bharat Ratna on his political mentor Karpoori Thakur.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP and its allies JDU and LJP swept 39 parliamentary seats out of 40 in Bihar and returned to power again with a majority in 2020 state assembly polls.

Kumar has been the Chief Minister of Bihar since 2005, except for a period of eight months in 2014-15. He held a meeting with Bihar JDU President Umesh Kushwaha and other party leaders including Sanjay Jha and Lalan Singh on Thursday. Meanwhile, Bihar BJP state president Samrat Chaudhary left for Delhi.

Nitish Kumar’s ‘Parivarwaad’ Jibe

Earlier on Wednesday, Kumar said some people are promoting only the family members and making them leaders, fuelling speculations that he might return to the BJP again.

“Karpoori Thakur was the biggest socialist leader of Bihar but did not promote any of his family members. He always thinks about the common people of Bihar and the country but some people are promoting only the family members and making them leaders,” Kumar said in an apparent jibe at Lalu Prasad Yadav.

He said that he has learnt from Karpoori Thakur not to promote any of my family members in politics.

“I always promoted other people in the party. It does not bother me about what other people say about it,” Kumar said while addressing the gathering.

Lalu’s Daughter Dig At Nitish

After Kumar’s comments, RJD chief Lalu Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya said people often cannot see their own shortcomings but continue to throw mud at others with impudence. However, she deleted the post on X, formerly Twitter, within an hour.

Lalu Yadav Calls Meet

RJD chief Lalu Yadav called a meeting of RJD leaders amid political turbulence in the state. Lalu’s wife and former CM Rabri Devi and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav will also be present there.

Tej Pratap Yadav, Shyam Rajak, Jai Prakash Yadav, Shakti Singh Yadav, Ranvijay Sahu, and Shivchandra Ram reached Rabri Devi’s residence.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a meeting with Bihar BJP Bihar President Samrat Chaudhary, Sushil Modi and other leaders in New Delhi, sources said.

Doors Closed For Nitish: Giriraj Singh

Union Minister and Begusarai Lok Sabha MP Giriraj Singh said Nitish Kumar is using pressure tactics against Lalu Yadav but doors of the BJP are closed for him.

“Yaha (Bihar) 6-5 ka khel chal raha hai, dono hard bargainer hai…The moment Nitish Kumar jibed on dynastic politics using Karpoori Thakur’s name, Rohini Acharya tweeted in this regard, soon the tweet was deleted ‘kyuki Nitish Kumar tight ho gye’…Nitish Kumar scares Lalu Yadav by pointing towards BJP…He keeps on singing a song that he will unite with BJP again, but he never says that the doors (of BJP) are close for him)…,” he said.
