Ahmedabad: Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Congress MLA from Sami-Harij Assembly segment, Bhavsinh Rathod of North Gujarat has claimed to have resigned from the party.
"I have sent my resignation to the party," he said, adding that, "If Congress clears my nomination for Lok Sabha seat from Patan constituency, then I will withdraw the resignation."
Rathod, who is being wooed by the both the Congress and the BJP, has flip-flopped many times in last couple of days on the issue of which party he will be with during the Lok Sabha polls.
Rathod, a powerful MLA belonging to the dominant Thakor community, wants to contest Patan Lok Sabha seat which has been de-reserved in the delimitation process, sources in the Congress said.
"I have told the state leaders that I want to contest Lok Sabha elections as I have support of my community but the party has not cleared my candidature," he said.
There have been rumours and speculations regarding his resignation from Congress to join BJP and contest Parliamentary polls on the saffron party's ticket.
However, the state Congress leaders are denying of having received any resignation letter from Rathod. "We have not received any letter from him regarding his resignation," state Congress president Sidhdharth Patel said.
