DCW chief's nameplate removed, Maliwal claims L-G office told her not to report to work
Swati Maliwal's nameplate was removed after Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung questioned Maliwal's appointment as the DCW chief.

The tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the Lt Governor got murkier on Thursday as Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal's nameplate was removed from her office.

The nameplate was removed after Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung questioned Maliwal's appointment as the DCW chief.

"Today even our nameplates have been removed from the office. I think it's a very shameful move," said Maliwal. Asserting that she doesn't feel victimised, she said, "I am determined for the betterment of the DCW."

Maliwal had said earlier that she was asked on phone not to attend office on Thursday. However, the Lt Governor office denied that any such calls were made.

The Lt Governor had earlier written to the Chief Secretary demanding an explanation over Maliwal's appointment without his approval.

"I got a call from the DCW office asking me not to report to work on Thursday. Lt Governor's office had told DCW office to pass on the message to me. It's really sad that in a situation like this when Delhi is really going through a very severe law and order situation and it is becoming all the more dangerous for women, this kind of a decision has come out," said Maliwal.

Maliwal is a key Kejriwal aide and wife of Haryana AAP leader Naveen Jaihind. Her appointment has been questioned by the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as well.
