New Delhi: With Delhi gearing up to elect a new Assembly the political battle is becoming personal. Just a day after Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal accused Bharatiya Janata Party Delhi unit President Satish Upadhyay, the slanging match between the two leaders has reached the Election Commission.
Upadhyay, Vijay Goel and some other BJP leaders met the Election Commission on Thursday to complain against Kejriwal.
"We have complained to the EC that Kejriwal's allegations are baseless and after the Model Code of Conduct being in place he has no right to make these baseless allegations. We want EC to take strict action against him and we will file a defamation case against AAP," said Ramesh Bidhuri, Delhi BJP General Secretary and South Delhi MP.
"He has no proof. He always makes baseless allegations. We aren't worried about what he will show as by the end of the day everyone will know the truth," Bidhuri added.
The AAP chief had on Wednesday accused Upadhyay of indulging in corruption. "Satish Upadhyay's company is responsible for installing and replacing meters in Delhi. The people say these meters run fast and that they should be inspected. We started the inspection of these meters which was stopped by the BJP government," the former CM had alleged
The Delhi BJP chief on Wednesday evening dared AAP to prove the charges. "There is no company by the two names mentioned. We will file a criminal defamation case against them. I give him 24 hours to prove that these companies exist and I will quit politics. If he's wrong, he should quit politics," said Upadhyay.
Supporting his party leader's claim, AAP founding member Yogendra Yadav said, "Everyone knows that Arvind Kejriwal doesn't accuse anyone without proofs. In the coming few days we will expose more nexuses."
