Delhi's New CM Atishi Has No Car, Jewellery or Loan. Here's How Much Property She Has
According to reports, new CM designate Atishi holds Rs 39 lakh in bank FDs and a Rs 5 lakh insurance policy. She has Rs 1.41 crore in deposits, and just Rs 20,000 in cash

Delhi’s Education Minister Atishi is set to succeed Arvind Kejriwal as the next Chief Minister of the national capital. As she steps into her new role, let’s take a look at her journey.

After studying from Delhi University and Oxford University, Atishi started her career as a teacher. Following this, she joined an NGO. However, in 2013, she left her job and started her political career with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Despite working for years and then rising through the ranks of AAP politics, Atishi has property worth only Rs 1.41 crore. This is as per the affidavit furnished by the Kalkaji MLA ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. This information is available on My Neta, a partner site of ADR (Association for Democratic Reform).

According to the information available on the National Election Watch website (https://www.myneta.info/delhi2020/candidate.php?candidate_id=8811), Atishi has only Rs 20,000 in cash, while she has a deposit of more than Rs 1.41 crore in banks and other financial firms. However, this also includes her husband’s income.

Atishi has two bank FDs worth Rs 39 lakh in her name. She has taken an insurance policy of more than Rs 5 lakh in her name. It is surprising that Atishi has no car, jewellery or any other kind of property. She has never taken a loan from any bank.

Atishi is regarded to be one of the strong women leaders in her party. It has been reported that when AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia were in prison after being arrested in the Delhi liquor policy case, Atishi boosted the morale of party workers during difficult times.

Earlier in the day, Atishi thanked her “guru” Arvind Kejriwal on being given the “big responsibility” of succeeding him as the Chief Minister of Delhi and said she would work under his “guidance” to protect people’s interests from the BJP’s obstructions.

Atishi is slated to be the third woman Chief Minister of the national capital after Congress’ Sheila Dikshit and BJP’s Sushma Swaraj.

Hours after being unanimously chosen to become the Chief Minister, she said that it was a moment mixed with joy as well as “extreme sadness” as Kejirwal, the popular CM, is going to resign.

Kejriwal proposed Atishi’s name in the legislative party meeting at his residence and was unanimously supported by AAP MLAs.
