TN CM threatens pullout over Congress accusation of his alleged pro-LTTE links.

New Delhi: Piqued by “frequent criticism” from key ally Congress, accusing the DMK government of not cracking down hard on LTTE supporters, an angry Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi hit back saying he was prepared for a change power in the state on the issue.

Karunanidhi had said on Sunday that he would rather relinquish power than compromise on his self-respect.

“If anyone still wants to try and change this government on this issue then I am ready for that as well. We have acted tough on anyone going against the interests of India and we will continue to do so,” Karunanidhi said.

Reacting to remarks by Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram at Nagercoil on Saturday night, where he reportedly said the LTTE continued to operate in the state and asked the government to “nip the issue in the bud,” Karunanidhi said the Congress should not be party to a “conspiracy” to topple his government.

Meanwhile, against the backdrop of reported increase in LTTE activities in the state, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director P C Haldar on Monday called on Karunanidhi.

An official press release described the meeting, held at Karunanidhi's Gopalapuram residence, as a "courtesy call."

Haldar, also the Chairman of All-India Police Sports Control Board, is scheduled to address the valedictory function of the 9th All-India Police Band Competition on Monday evening.
