New Delhi: Goa Governor BV Wanchoo's resignation was accepted and Rajasthan Governor Margaret Alva has been given the additional charge. Wanchoo stepped down on Friday.
A Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said President Pranab Mukherjede has accepted the resignation of Wanchoo as Governor of Goa and has appointed Alva, Governor of Rajasthan, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Goa.
Alva has a tenure till the first week of August. Wanchoo resigned on July four after he received a call from Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami conveying the government's wish that he submit his resignation.
Wanchoo is the fifth governor to quit after the BJP government came to power at the Centre.
Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal was transferred as Governor of Mizoram on Sunday. Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman was also shifted as Nagaland Governor for the remainder of his term. He will continue to hold additional charge as Tripura Governor.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi also resigned and Uttarakhand Governor was given the additional charge.
