Gujarat BJP MLA has NREGA account: RTI activist
An investigation has revealed that there is rampant corruption in NREGA scheme in Gujarat's Dang district.

Ahmedabad: Even as Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi says that neither is he corrupt, nor does he allow his ministers to indulge in corruption, it seems that some of his colleagues do not adhere to this adage. An investigation has revealed that there is rampant corruption in NREGA scheme in Gujarat’s Dang district and allegations have been levelled against BJP MLA Vijay Patel.

With Assembly elections due in the state in a couple of weeks, the Congress has found some ammunition to target the Modi regime. RTI activist Bapu Mahala has alleged that Vijay Patel opened accounts in NREGA to siphon off the money meant for the genuine beneficiaries.

When IBN7 questioned Vijay Patel about the allegations, he said that he had no information about it. Mahala alleged that several accounts have been opened under NREGA, but the amount meant for the beneficiaries have not reached them. Mahela added that many account holders died several years ago but their accounts were still operative.

IBN7 traced Savita, the wife of one such deceased person in whose name a NREGA account existed. When asked is she knew for the last several years money has been taken out in the name of her husband, Savita replied, “No, my husband died five years ago.” She also added that she never made an attempt to investigate the matter.

The question is where is the money going in the name of the dead and the unemployed? Congress alleges that the BJP MLA behind the alleged scam and has demanded the case should be investigated by CBI.
