Patna: The politics has hit a new low in Bihar Assembly elections as political parties are busy digging out pictures and videos of leaders with oculist and self-styled godman. After Bharatiya Janata Party, it was now Janata Dal United's turn and it released old picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi sharing stage with controversial self-styled godman Asaram.
The picture surfaced after BJP released a video that showed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar cosying up to a tantrik (oculist) and hugging him and used it as a tool to hit out at the JDU-RJD-Congress Mahagathbandhan.
Union Minister and BJP star campaigner Rajiv Pratap Rudy lashed out at JDU saying, "It does not matter what pictures Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad are showing. The country has chosen Modi as Prime Minister and that is all that matters."
The controversial self-styled godman is in jail in alleged rape case.
JDU spokesperson Sanjay Singh said the video and pictures of Modi with yoga guru Ramdev, Shankaracharya, Sathya Sai Baba, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Asaram Bapu and Jain seers exposed his claim that he never visited such men.
Though Sanjay Singh did not say if the JDU took this step to counter Modi's repeated attacks on Nitish Kumar's visit to an oculist, the spokesperson said people will decide who was the "jantar-mantar" or who was visiting so-called babas regularly.
"If Modi has no faith in tantra-mantra, why and how has he been visiting Asaram and other self-styled spiritual gurus and godmen?" Sanjay Singh asked.
Modi during his recent election rallies slammed Nitish Kumar, describing him as 'jantar-mantar', who joined hands with the 'jungle raj' of Lalu Prasad.
