Chennai: Dravidian and Ambedkarism style fan frenzy kicked off in a small way for actor Kamal Haasan with his fans showcasing posters carrying images of not just their star but also Periyar and Ambedkar outside his office in Alwarpet on Monday.

While Superstar Rajinikanth has made it clear that he wants to usher in "spiritual politics', Haasan will announce the name of his party on February 21 and will also go on a state-wide tour.

RK Radhakrishnan, Associate Editor, Frontline, says having these images may work against him.

"Kamal appears to target a niche segment by having pictures of Periyar and Ambedkar. The Ambedkar imagery is rarely used by Tamil mainline political parties because it drives out the OBCs. If Kamal is aiming at making a difference via the legislature, this is a wrong path," Radhakrishnan added.

Kamal Haasan, in his weekly column in 'Ananda Vikatan' in the previous week, made it clear that Dravidian movement is pan India. "Dravidianism is not just related to Tamil Nadu. If all the South Indian states adopt Dravidian ideologies, the voices of four Chief Ministers will be heard in Delhi."

Addressing his fans, Kamal said: "We have been pushed to do this. I'm embarking in this with your support. Our work has to multiply and become a good precedent. Many will join us. Embrace them as good elders."

Rajinikanth, however, is working on appointing office bearers for his party in all the districts in Tamil Nadu.
