42. Mahasamund is a state Assembly/Vidhan Sabha constituency in the state of Chhattisgarh and is part of Mahasamund Lok Sabha/Parliamentary constituency. Mahasamund falls in Mahasamund district and Central region of Chhattisgarh. It is categorised as a semi-urban seat.

There are a total of 1,92,098 voters in the seat, which includes 94,494 male voters, and 97,596 female voters. In the 2018 Chhattisgarh elections, Mahasamund recorded a voter turnout of 80.53%. In 2013 the turnout was 81.33%, and in 2008 it was 75.17%.

In 2013, Dr Vimal Chopra of IND won the seat by a margin of 4,722 votes (3.36%). Dr Vimal Chopra secured 33.73% of the total votes polled.
