Lucknow: Terming the supply of fertilisers from the Centre as 'insufficient', Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Tuesday shot off a fresh letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to bridge the gap between demand and supply.
"The Chief Minister has requested the Prime Minster to ensure timely supply of fertilisers so that agriculture production was not affected and the income of farmers could also increase," an official release here said.
Mayawati accused the Centre of not cooperating with the state on the issue of fertiliser supply and said that because of this her government could not ensure its supply to farmers.
She said that since the sowing season of Rabi crops was on, the demand of fertilisers had increased.
The chief minister recalled that in her previous letter on September 27, she had requested the Prime Minister to provide additional quota of fertiliser to the state.
"The supply of fertiliser from the Centre is not sufficient. State agriculture minister Chowdhury Lakshmi Narain has personally met the Union Chemical and Fertiliser Minister and informed him about the situation but nothing was done in this regard," Mayawati said.
The chief minister has written about half a dozen letters to the Prime Minister in the last fortnight, over various
issues, mostly pertaining to the weaker sections, apparently with an eye on the upcoming polls.
