Move to downplay attack on Mamata Banerjee, says TMC
A TMC worker alleged that a conspiracy was hatched to kill the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with the Delhi administration failing to provide security.

Kolkata: Efforts were being made to downplay the 'attack' on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and finance minister Amit Mitra by projecting the Presidency incident, the Trinamool Congress claimed on Saturday and reiterated the demand for an impartial inquiry into the vandalism. Stating that the party had condemned both the April 9 'attack' on Banerjee and the finance minister and the vandalism at Presidency University a day after, TMC Secretary General Partha Chatterjee alleged "attempts are being made to make light of the incident of attack on the CM by highlighting the Presidency incident.

He alleged that a conspiracy was hatched to kill the Chief Minister and the finance minister with the Delhi administration failing to provide security to them. "The attack in Delhi was made when the chief minister had gone to the Planning Commission with the state's demand. The CPI(M) is trying to stall the state's development," he alleged as the party took out protest procession from Moulali to Gandhi's statue in central Kolkata.

"Till now not a single person has been arrested by Delhi police," Chatterjee, also the state industry minister, said. Speaking about the vandalism at Presidency University, he said it was to be seen how the incident took place and the police should make an impartial inquiry without seeing party colour.

The university registrar should help the police in an impartial investigation, he said. The police during the day cross-examined university guard Pappu Singh. On Friday the Chief Minister had telephoned Presidency University Vice-Chancellor Malabika Sarkar and said she was devastated by the vandalism at the Baker Laboratory.

Meanwhile, CPIM state secretary Biman Bose alleged that the vandalism might have taken place to shift the focus from the death of SFI leader Sudipto Gupta in police custody.
