Jayalaithaa and Sasikala were charged with non-filing of Income Tax returns during 1991 and 1994.
New Delhi: The new year started on an auspicious note for former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa. The Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the proceedings in the trial court against Jayalalithaa and her close friend Sasikala Natarajan in an Income Tax case.
Jayalaithaa and Sasikala were charged with non-filing of Income Tax returns during the period between 1991 and 1994.
An apex court Bench, headed by Justice B N Agrawal, admitted a petition filed by a company owned by Sasikala that challenged the order of the Madras High Court.
The trial court had directed the former chief minister to appear before it on January 29.
