New Delhi: UPA's Presidential nominee Pranab Mukherjee on Friday thanked JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for supporting his candidature. The JD(U) on Thursday broke ranks with the NDA announced its support for Pranab in the Presidential poll.
Meanwhile, JD(U) leader Shivanand Tiwari defended Pranab Mukherjee and appealed to the BJP to support his candidature. "I am appealing to the BJP to support Pranab. Pranab is not responsible for the price rise. In the current situation, even Ravi Shankar Prasad cannot control the price rise," Tiwari said.
The NDA was divided on the Presidential poll as the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal decided to support former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma. However, its allies JD(U) and Shiv Sena will support Pranab in the race to the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav had on Thursday said that the NDA tried to reach consensus on a candidate but could not.
