New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was "very qualified" to be a Minister and again offered him a post in his council of ministers.
"Rahul is very qualified to hold a Cabinet post. I have discussed with him on a number of occasions though I don't remember exactly the date when I discussed with him last," Singh said at a news conference in Delhi.
The Prime Minister was asked about Gandhi being projected as a future Prime Minister of the country. "Let me say that I sometimes feel that younger people should take over. As and when the Congress party makes that judgment and I will very happy to make place for anybody the Congress party decides,” he replied.
"He (Rahul) has always been reluctant to give a positive answer (on joining the cabinet) by telling me that he has to strengthen the Congress party," the Prime Minister said of the AICC General Secretary.
He also said if Rahul decides to join the Cabinet he will be given an appropriate role.
