Rajasthan election results: How the day unfolded

Jaipur: 8 pm: It is a massive victory for the BJP as the party has won 162 seats. The Congress is decimated with just 21 seats and Others with 16.

7:45 pm: The BJP has won 158 seats and is leading in 3 seats. The Congress has won 21 seats and Others 15 seats and is leading in 2.

7:20 pm: BJP chief ministerial candidate Vasundhara Raje says this is a historic victory of BJP worker. She says, "First time voters have voted against the misgovernance of the Congress party. It is the win of youth and women power."

7:18 pm: The BJP has won 146 seats, Congress 19 and Others 15.

6:45 pm: The BJP has won 136 seats and is leading in 25 seats, Congress has won 18 seats and leading in 3 and Others won 13 seats and is leading in 4.

NPP Convener Kirori Lal Meena won from Lalsot seat in Dausa district defeating his nearest rival Parsadi Lal Meena (Congress) by a margin of 491 votes.

5:35 pm: The BJP has won 116 seats, Congress 18 and Others 10.

5 pm: The BJP wins 105 seats, Congress 11 and Others 9.

4:30 pm: The BJP wins 98 seats, Congress 10 and Others 8.

2:35 pm: The BJP is eyeing a historic win as the party is leading in 154 seats. The Congress is leading in 23 seats and Others in 22.

The BJP wins 12 seats and the Congress opens its account by winning a seat.

1:50 pm: The BJP is way ahead of the Congress as the party is leading in 145 seats. The Congress is leading in 48 seats and Others in 26.

BJP candidate Babu Ram Jat wins Saharada seat of Bhilwara district by defeating his nearest rival of Congress Kailash Trivedi by a margin of 20,756 votes. Another BJP candidate Kalulal Gurjar wins Mandal seat of Bhilwara district by defeating his nearest rival of Congress Rampal Sharma by a margin of 41,434 votes.

BJP candidate Otaram wins Sirohi seat of Sirohi district by defeating his nearest rival of Congress Sanyam Lodha by a margin of 10,539 votes.

BJP candidate Vasudev Devnani from Ajmer North defeats Congress' Dr Shrigopal Baheti by 20,479 votes.

1:25 pm: The BJP has won four seats in the state.

BJP candidate Jagasi Ram wins Reodar seat of Sirohi district by defeating his nearest rival of Congress Lakhma Ram by a margin of 32,244 votes.

BJP candidate Samaram Grasiya wins Pindwara-Abu seat of Sirohi district by defeating his nearest rival of Congress Gangaben Grasiya by a margin of 30,855 votes.

1:10 pm: The BJP is leading in 140 seats, Congress in 33 and Others in 26.

BJP leader Shimla Bawri from Anupgarh defeats National Unionist Zamindara Party's Shimla Devi Nayak by 11146 votes.

12:50 pm: The BJP has won three seats.

BJP candidate Gurjant Singh from Sadulshahar defeats Congress' Jagdish Chander by 4808 votes.

12:23 pm: First seat goes to the BJP.

12:15 pm: The BJP is leading in 137 seats, the Congress in 36 and Others in 25.

National People's Party and Independents candidates were leading in 8 seats each. Candidates of other parties were leading on three seats while BSP candidates were leading in two seats.

Discus thrower and Commonwealth Games medallist Krishna Poonia (Cong) is trailing behind her BJP rival Kamla Kaswan on Sadulpur constituency in Churu district. Kaswan is leading by a margin of 22088 votes after ten rounds of counting.

NPP's General Secretary and sitting independent MLA Golma Devi is also trailing by 2339 votes from Rajgarh-Laxmangarh seat after first round against Congress and BJP candidates.

Former royal Diya Kumari of BJP is trailing by 6957 votes from Sawaimadhopur seat against Congress and BJP rivals.

Kiran Maheshwari of BJP is leading by a margin of 21372 votes on Rajsamand seat against Congress candidate Hari Singh Rathore.

BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi congratulates party's chief ministerial candidate Vasundhara Raje for the victory. He tweets, "Spoke to Vasundhara ji and congratulated her for the historic victory of BJP in Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha elections."

11:55 am: The BJP is way ahead of the Congress as it is leading in 135 seats. The Congress is leading 36 seats and Others in 27.

11:30 am: The BJP is leading in 134 seats and both the Congress and Others in 28 seats each.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot concedes defeat and also accuses the BJP of making wrong allegations in the campaign. He says, "Our campaign was on development, we wanted to make development in the state. BJP made wrong allegations in the campaign."

Gehlot says the party was expected to win in the state. He says, "Our schemes have been very good, people will remember us for this. They ( BJP) made false allegations to show as if the government made schemes in last 6 months looking at elections but that is not true."

10:58 am: BJP chief ministerial candidate Vasundhara Raje says Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is a huge factor behind the landslide victory in the state. She says, "Modi is a huge factor behind the victory. I give many thanks to the people of Rajasthan and my workers. I dedicate my victory to the people of Rajasthan. People of Rajasthan are fed up of bad governance of Congress."

10:55 am: The BJP is leading in 130 seats, Congress in 28 seats and Others in 24.

10:35 am: The BJP is way ahead of the Congress as the party is leading in 124 seats. The Congress is leading in 30 seats and Others in 22.

10:20 am: It is a big lead for the BJP as the party is leading in 129 seats, the Congress in 21 and Others in 19.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi says there is an anti-incumbency factor in Rajasthan. "There is no doubt that we have lost badly in Rajasthan. The trends show there is no Modi wave," he says.

Congress' ministers Mahendra Jeet Singh, Hemaram Choudhary, and Brij Kishore Sharma were leading in Bagidora, Gudhamalani, and Hawamahal constituencies respectively against their BJP rivals.

Sitting BJP MLAs Devi Singh Bhati (Kolayat), Siddhi Kumari (Bikaner east), Gyan Chand Parakh (Pali), Kesaram Chaudhary (Marwar Junction), Kiran Maheshwari (Rajsamand), Sanjana Agari (Sojat) are among the BJP candidates who are leading.

Those who are trailing are ministers Shanti Dhariwal (Kota North), Bina Kak (Sumerpur) Ameen Khan (Sheo), Vinod Kumar (Hanumangarh), Parliamentary Secretary Dilip Chaudhary (Jaitaran). Dhariwal is trailing by a margin of 1105 votes whereas Forest Minister Bina Kak is behind by 2714 votes.

Former LS Speaker PA Sangma's National People's Party is leading in four Assembly constituencies of Rajasthan.

NPP's Durgaprasad, Wajib Ali and Navin Pilania are leading on Gangapur, Nagar and Amer constituencies.

BSP's two candidates Daulatram and Dalveer Singh are also leading on Bari and Bharatpur constituencies respectively.

10:00 am: The BJP has swept the state as it is leading in 114 seats and the Congress is leading in 21 seats and others in 20.

9:53 am: The BJP has crossed the half-way mark as the party is leading in 100 seats. The Congress is still leading in 22 seats and other in 9.

BJP chief ministerial candidate Vasundhara Raje was leading from her home constituency of Jhalarapatan in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district by a margin of 3,923 votes against her nearest rival of Congress Meenakshi Chandrawat.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot was leading in his Sardarpura constituency of Jodhpur district by a margin of 4,619 votes against his BJP rival Shambhu Singh Khetasar.

Congress' Zahida Khan was leading by a margin of 5,342 votes over her nearest rival of BJP Kunwar Jagat Singh, son of Natwar Singh, from Kaman constituency of Bharatpur district.

Congress' ministers Mahendra Jeet Singh, Hemaram Choudhary, and Brij Kishore Sharma were leading in Bagidora, Gudhamalani, and Hawamahal Constituencies respectively against their BJP rivals.

National People's Party Convenor and Lok Sabha Kirori Lal Meena is leading by a margin of 1,675 in Lalsot constituency against Congress and BJP candidates.

9:40 am: The BJP is in a massive lead in the state as it is leading in 92 seats. The Congress is leading in 23 seats and Others in 9.

9:30 am: It is a clear sweep for the BJP as they are leading in 75 seats. The Congress is leading in 22 seats and Others in 9.

9:20 am: The BJP is way ahead of the Congress as it is leading in 61 seats. The Congress is leading in 16 seats and Others in 1.

Some of the constituencies in which BJP candidates are leading are Aspur, Bhilwara, Mandal, Pindwara-Abu and Udaipur district against their nearest rivals of Congress.

BJP candidate Narpat Singh Rajvi is leading by 663 votes from Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency of Jaipur district against his nearest rival of Congress Vikram Singh Shekhawat.

Gulab Chand Kataria of BJP is leading by 1091 votes from Udaipur against his nearest rival of Congress.

Congress candidate Mewaram Jain is leading by a margin of 1025 votes against his BJP rival in Barmer constituency.

Independent Ritu Banawat is leading by 346 votes from Bayana seat against her rivals of BJP and Congress.

9:09 am: BJP is leading in 32 seats, Congress in 10 and Others in 1.

At 9 am, the BJP is leading in 17 seats and Congress in seven.

Counting of votes for 199 Assembly seats in Rajasthan started at 8 am on Sunday to decide the fate of 2,087 candidates. Out of the 4.08 crore electors, 75.20 per cent exercised their franchise on December 1 when the state went to polls.

Counting of votes will take place at 37 centres in 33 districts of the state. In the state capital, counting of votes cast in 19 constituencies will take place in Rajasthan college and Commerce college.

There were 166 women candidates and one eunuch candidate in the fray.

While Congress and BJP have fielded 200 candidates each, the BSP (195), CPI(M)(38), CPI (23), NCP (16), other parties (666) and Independents (758) including the Churu Assembly constituency.

Polling in Churu constituency, which was adjourned following the death of BSP candidate Jagdish Meghwal, will take place on December 13 and counting will be on December 16.

BJP chief ministerial candidate Vasundhara Raje is believed to be way ahead of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot as preferred the choice for chief ministership.
