New Delhi: After Congress president Sonia Gandhi's visit to Nithari village in Uttar Pradesh, from where macabre killings of children and women were unravelled, party members were given a crash course on the killings.
Union Minister for Child and Women Development Renuka Choudhary on Saturday briefed the party leadership about the situation in Nithari.
Choudhary met AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot and discussed the measures taken by her ministry in regard with the incident. "The Nithari killings was the major issue discussed with the minister," Gehlot said.
She discussed the findings and recommendations of the high-level committee constituted by the Centre to probe the killings.
The Ministry for Child and Women Development had set up the committee on Thursday. In its report, the committee pointed out that the police had not taken prompt action in registering FIRs in the missing persons cases.
Choudhary also held a meeting with the committee on Friday, which recommended that counselling should be provided to the parents of missing children as they were undergoing tremendous trauma.
