Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Saturday plunged into pandemonium followed by the Opposition walking out over alleged misappropriation and discriminatory allocation of funds in various Assembly segments in the state.
During the Question Hour, as Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma was replying to a question by PDP MLA Choudhary Zulfikar Ali in connection with upgradation of various health institutions and allocation of funds, Opposition members -
Harshdev Singh of JKNPP, M Y Tarigami of CPI(M) and Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari of PDP - sought reply on the "discriminatory role" of the government over these issues.
An argument followed between the Minister and Harshdevi Singh, who alleged discrimination in the allocation of funds.
When Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather intervened and rejected the allegations, the entire Opposition led by Mehbooba Mufti, Chaman Lal Gupta, Harshdev Singh, JSM member Ashwani Kumar and Independent Member Engineer Rashid resorted to anti-government protests and sloganeering, asking the government to end "the rule of misappropriation, loot and bungling of the government exchequer".
Demanding suspension of the government, Tarigami, Singh and Ansari entered into an argument with the Finance Minister and claimed that he had set up eight health centres, 17 schools and two major road projects in his constituency during the past one year by allocating funds but had discriminated against other constituencies.
They also charged him of allocating Rs 1.5 crore to a defeated NC candidate to undertake development in his constituency.
Some Opposition members stood up on their benches and some walked into the well of the House demanding that a Joint Legislature Committee (JLC) be formed to looking into the "discriminatory" allocation of funds and of various projects
during past two years.
The uproar continued for over 15 minutes after which the Opposition staged a walkout from the House.
