New Delhi: The election fever is fast catching up in Punjab that goes to the Assembly polls in February.
After the Election Commission transferred the state DGP S S Virk on charges that he was biased towards the Congress, the party retorted with a scathing attack on rival Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Punjab unit of the Congress on Monday said that the objections raised by SAD on the ruling party's advertisements on radio and television are either based on ignorance or have been deliberately raised as a part of the Opposition's malicious election campaign.
A Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPC) spokesman said that the party had duly purchased all telecast, broadcast and publication rights of the advertisements from their original producing companies.
The party also asked SAD to verify its facts before making such “false, baseless and malicious accusations” against the Congress.
The spokesperson insisted that Congress was “fully committed to transparency and fair play both during and after the electoral process.”
The clarification came after SAD had on Sunday objected the alleged misuse of songs and advertisement "prepared" by the Public Relations Department of Punjab Government for the election campaign of the Congress.
The party in a complaint to the Election Commission of India urged it to stop the telecast of these songs and advertisements and demanded strict action against the Congress party and officers/officials of PR department who have connived with the Congress party.
SAD alleged that all these items were prepared by the PR department to highlight the achievement of the state government alleging that tax payer's hard earned money was used for the preparation of these songs and advertisements and "these are the property of the state government."
