New Delhi: When it comes to talking about sex in public, chances are that most Indians would shy away.
But in a country where the number of HIV cases are increasing at an alarming rate — 5.5 million according to recent estimates — the status quo needs to change.
The second international conference on sexology, inaugurated by the chairman Professor Rajmohan in Chennai on Saturday, came as a step forward.
The conference aims at focussing on sexual disorders, removal of misconceptions about sex and creating awareness of a happy sexual life.
Sexology and sexual health are looked at as an enigma, a riddle, unethical and a mystery to be discussed even inside closed doors, PTI quoted Rajmohan as saying.
Sexual behaviour was also linked to a number of health problems that were serious and sometimes incurable, he added.
The general public had not really had much guidance in sorting through the maze of high technology, rapidly evolving treatments and diagnosis in the field of sexology, PTI quoted Rajmohan as saying.
