Supreme Court to hear four pleas seeking CBI probe into Vyapam scam, removal of MP Governor today
The Madhya Pradesh High Court had on Wednesday deferred a plea for CBI probe till the July 20 saying that it will wait for the SC ruling on petitions.

New Delhi: It is a crucial day in the Vyapam scam probe as the Supreme Court will on Thursday hear all the petitions related to the case. The four pleas include seeking an SC monitored probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case as well as another plea seeking the removal of scam-accused Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court had on Wednesday deferred a plea for a CBI probe till the July 20 saying that it will wait for the Supreme Court ruling on petitions. After HC's decision, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that he would request the Supreme Court that the investigation in the deadly Vyapam scam be handed over to the CBI.

"The matter is about to come in the Supreme Court. We request for a CBI probe in the case. I have sent my request to the High Court asking for a CBI probe into the Vyapam case," Chouhan said.

On Monday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said that the probe by Special Investigation Team into Vyapam scam was being monitored by the MP High Court and the government cannot direct the court to hand it over to CBI. "SIT probe into the scam is on, and the government cannot direct the High Court or the Supreme Court on the issue," Singh had said.

Asked why the state government was avoiding a CBI probe into the massive recruitment/admission scam, Singh said the High Court and the apex court had already rejected a PIL in this regard. "There is no point in handing over the ongoing probe to CBI at this juncture," he said.

"If the Supreme Court or the High Court feels that the probe is not perfect to the extent it should be, then it will give directions and the government will immediately accept it and hand over the matter to the CBI," Singh said.

Meanwhile, the embattled CM is in Delhi and is expected to meet the family of journalist Akshay Singh. Singh died under mysterious circumstances while covering the scam. More than 45 people related to the scam have died in the last 2 years.
