New Delhi: Amidst reports of a hike in gas and kerosene prices, the Union Cabinet met on Wednesday and decided to defer the decision on gas pricing by three months.

"Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has deferred the decision on gas pricing by three months," said Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at the press conference, also attended by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The minister, however, did not cite any reason for the delay in decision making on the crucial topic.

He said, "Cabinet has decided to hold further consultations on gas pricing guidelines. All stake holders will be consulted."

Sources had earlier in the day said that the Cabinet may propose changes in the Rangarajan formula on gas pricing. The Rangarajan Committee was appointed by the previous UPA government.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar evaded reporters' queries on senior lawyer and former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium opting out of the race for the post of Supreme Court judge.

He said, "It will not be appropriate for me to comment on it.. we have no comment on the comment made by Gopal Subramanium. Appointment of SC Judge is very sensitive issue."

He also hit back at the Congress for targeting it over the issue reminding it of the Emergency. "Want to remind Congress of emergency and the havoc it played with judiciary. It should remember this before speaking about NDA's role in judicial matters," he said.

Prasad also informed the reporters about the the Cabinet nod given to an MoU with China on setting up of industrial parks in India.

Speaking on the MSP on paddy, he said, "CCEA approves hike in paddy MSP by Rs 50 to Rs 1,360 per quintal for this crop year."####r
