Malda: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Monday told the Malda District Congress president Abu Hasan Khan Chowdhury to request the Congress rebel candidate in the district to withdraw from the poll fray.
"I have told Abu Hasan Khan Chowdhury to request the Congress rebel candidate from Malatipur constituency to withdraw from the assembly election," Mamata told reporters in Malda.
Mamata had come to the Malda district to campaign for her party candidates. Election in Malda district would be held on April 18 during the first phase of the six-phase election.
Malda district has 12 assembly seats. The Congress is contesting from nine seats and its alliance partner the Trinamool Congress is contesting three seats - Habibpur, Manikchak and Malatipur.
A Congress rebel candidate is contesting as an Independent from the Malatipur seat from where Trinamool Congress has put up Gautam Chakraborty.
