WB: Mamata-interlocutors meeting begins
Will the Chief Minister be able to make pro-dialogue mediators change their minds?

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is meeting interlocutors appointed by her government for peace talks with Maoists.

The meeting was called to bring around interlocutors who have threatened to quit after Mamata resumed anti-Maoist operations in Jungle Mahal area in response to the killing of Trinamool workers.

Will the Chief Minister be able to make pro-dialogue mediators change their minds?

The crucial meet was called for after Mamata's six member team of interlocutors said they wanted to quit after reports suggested that the Maoists were allegedly hatching plans of attacking her and 11 of her men.

Sources say that the chief minister will try to change their minds in the meeting.

State appointed interlocutor Choton Das said, "It is very unfortunate that a war-like situation is on, given these circumstances we don't think there is a need to carry on as interlocutors."

Mamata Banerjee is standing at the cross roads. Her tough talk with the Maoists and the resumption of joint forces operations against the Maoists has left many of her supporters among the intellectuals confused and some even feel betrayed.

Social activist Mahashweta Devi said, "a one-man party has never been forgiven by history. Mamata needs to find out what she wants to do with herself and her party members."

Cornered from all sides for her flip-flops on Maoists the road to peace for the people of Jungle Mahal now increasingly seems a difficult one.
