Mumbai: A day after BJP president Amit Shah urged the party workers to prepare to fight alone in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena hit back saying the BJP’s arrogance will now show them the way out.
"We have already wiped you off and have rejected you two years ago. Why are you still following us? Don't forget that the people of the five states which went to polls, have also wiped you off recently. So don't speak in that language with us. We have wiped people off in the last 50 years, and have reached here," Sanjay Raut told CNN-News18.
Shah, while addressing booth-level cadre in Latur, said: “If any alliance takes place, our preparation will be helpful for our partner's candidates. Don't think of whether alliance with Sena will happen or not. Prepare to fight alone.”
The Sena, which has backed the Congress’s demand for a JPC and has also decided to vote against the Citizenship amendment Bill, continued its attack on its long standing ally — the BJP.
"It is your fear of failure that makes you say all these things. You are scared of losing, not us. What are you talking of heart attack to others? You have got heart attack in three of the five States recently. You spoke the same language then. But the people of those States wiped you off. All those who have spoken this language of arrogance in Maharashtra have been wiped off," Raut said further.
It is reported that CM Devendra Fadnavis, who was also present at the Latur meeting, told the workers that irrespective of whether an alliance with the Sena was cemented or not, the BJP would go it alone and win all seats in the State.
“Do not worry about an alliance [with the Sena]… Prepare to root out all Opposition parties one by one by delivering such a victory so as to leave them stunned,” Shah said.
At the same time, Shah said that in the event an alliance was forged with a friendly party, the BJP would contest with its ally and win.
"What right do you have to challenge us? We don't want you. You are still running behind us. What does it mean? You are scared of failure," said Raut.
It is to be noted that both the leaders steered clear of unequivocally announcing that the alliance won't come into being.
The two allies have been working at cross purposes against each other. It remains to be seen how the two will come around as the general elections draw near.
Maharashtra accounts for 48 Lok Sabha seats.
