West Bengal government to release 64 files related to Netaji today, may throw light on his mysterious disappearance
The Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal said that they will also undertake the process of digitization of all files from 1937 to 1947.

Fulfilling a long standing demand, the West Bengal government will release 64 files related to Subhash Chandra Bose on Friday. The files were with West Bengal Police and will be released for public viewing at the Kolkata Police museum on Friday.

The files date back to the period between 1937 to 1947 and are expected to throw light on Netaji's mysterious disappearance.

Making the announcement to make the files public, the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal said that they will also undertake the process of digitization of all files from 1937 to 1947.

Netaji's grand nephew had welcomed the move and said that the Centre should take a cue from this move and release all 135 files with the government. "We hope that the NDA government take a cue from this and release the 135 files that is there with the Centre," Chandra Bose said.

"It's time that the nation gets to know about the true story behind Netaji. We would like to ask the West Bengal government to form a team which will include members of the Bose family scrutinize the files. The British government too has said that they have files on Netaji...they have asked for more time..I would request PM Narendra Modi to request governments of England and Russia to release the documents," he added.

The Prime Minister's Office in August told the Central Information Commission that it cannot declassify files related to Bose as it will adversely affect relations with foreign countries.

During the hearing before the CIC, the PMO admitted that it has files related to Bose but did not give any specifics and submitted that they cannot be declassified keeping in mind the relations with foreign countries.
