Samsung has unveiled an AI-powered 8K resolution television that aims to take the TV-viewing experience to a whole new level. Samsung Q9S, an 85-inch smart television has been introduced by the South Korean giant at the CES 2018. The smart television uses a proprietary algorithm to upscale standard definition content to an 8k resolution. The Artificial Intelligence on the Q9S calculates the quality of the picture in each scene and then employs its algorithm to improve upon the detail enhancement, edge restoration as well as noise reduction, to overall deliver a better quality picture to its viewers.
The AI used in the television also makes automatic sound adjustments to better suit the picture that it relates to, e.g. it will maintain different sound levels for a cricket match and a movie.
The Samsung Q9S sports a design that enables full edge-to-edge viewing and comes complete with a floor standing frame, as it builds upon the company's existing "easel" design.
Samsung has not unveiled the price of the smart television as of now. The only details which have been out regarding the availability of the Samsung Q9S is that the television will be first released in Korea in early 2018, following which, the company will launch the smart TV in its other markets.
Samsung aims to compete with LG's 88-inch 'star unveiling' scheduled for the CES - 2018. The latter has brought out an 88-inch 8K OLED TV as its show-stopper for this year's CES.
