New Delhi: In line with rumours and leaks, Motorola has finally unveiled to the world its much-anticipated smartphones - the all-new Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2. The former is claimed to feature, Moto ShatterShield - the world’s first shatterproof display, while the latter is touted to offer a longer battery life.
As described by Motorola, Moto ShatterShield display technology used in the Turbo 2 is an integrated system consisting of five layers designed from materials that absorb shock from impact and are guaranteed not to shatter.
"The display and embedded lens are warranted against shattering and cracking for four years from the original date of purchase; scratches or other damage to the protective lens is not covered by this warranty, but should always be in place to prevent scratches and other damage to the underlying components," says Motorola.
Apart from a shatterproof screen, the Droid Turbo 2 includes TurboPower charging, that the company claims can give users up to 13 hours of power in just 15 minutes, and Moto Maker customisation. The phone is said to give users up to 48 hours of battery life on a single charge.
The Turbo 2 sports a 5.4-inch Quad HD display, 21 megapixel rear camera, and a 5 megapixel front-facing camera. Under the hood is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 with 2.0 GHz octa-core CPUs. The phone supports a microSD card of up to 2TB.
Motorola Droid Maxx, on the other hand, has a 5.5-inch full 1080p HD display, 21 megapixel rear camera featuring rapid focus and color-balancing flash, and a microSD card slot for up to 128GB of storage. It is also claimed to offer up to 48 hours of power. Users can even customise it with interchangeable backs and protective flip shells.
Both new Droid phones will be available exclusively in the US through Verizon Wireless starting October 29. The Droid Turbo 2 will be $26 per month for 24 months ($624 retail price) or $30 per month for 24 months ($720 retail price) with design refresh. And the Droid Maxx 2 will be $16 per month for 24 months ($384 retail price).
