New Delhi: After reports surfaced that the Facebook app for iOS was draining the iDevice’s battery faster than usual, Facebook has finally admitted the issue and introduced an updated version of the app.
Facebook’s Ari Grant in his post acknowledged the issue and explained that the latest Version 42.0 has some improvements that takes care of the ‘CPU spin’ in the network code, which he explains is like a child in a car asking constantly "Are we there yet" - a repeated processing that unnecessarily soaks up more battery.
The second issue with the app that Grant explains takes up more juice than intended is the one with audio sessions. He says, “If you leave the Facebook app after watching a video, the audio session sometimes stays open as if the app was playing audio silently. This is similar to when you close a music app and want to keep listening to the music while you do other things, except in this case it was unintentional and nothing kept playing. The app isn't actually doing anything while awake in the background, but it does use more battery simply by being awake."
