The console might have been the accessory that would add CD capabilities to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and play SNES cartridge games and titles for the SNES CD system-dubbed PlayStation.

New Delhi: Other than its first PlayStation, Sony was apparently working with Nintendo on a video game accessory in the 90s that could not see the light of the day.

A Reddit user posted pictures of what looks like the prototype of the original PlayStation, which he found in his father’s junk. Apparently the user’s father worked with someone named Olaf who was employed by the Mario company, who then left the console behind in a box of junk.

A report on Engadget notes that the console might have been the accessory that would add CD capabilities to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and play SNES cartridge games and titles for the SNES CD system-dubbed PlayStation.

However, as the deal between Sony and Nintendo did not work out, with the latter announcing a partnership with rival Philips for the optical add-on at the same event where Sony unveiled its Nintendo-centric PlayStation, the said device might have been a project dumped midway.
