Google Chrome users in India have got another major security threat and the alert for this issue comes via the Indian government this month. The latest Chrome security warning dated September 4 has been posted by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) with a high severity ranking, which ought to get millions of Chrome users in the country extremely concerned.
What Does The Chrome Security Issue Mean
The CERT-In bulletin this week clearly highlights the issues in Chrome browser and how it might affect the users. “These vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Use after free in Web Audio and Out of Bounds write in V8. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted web page,” the note explains.
What note simply says is that if the attacker manages to bypass the security of the system and exploit these issues, they can get the victim to visit a targeted malicious website which can be very dangerous. So, if you have been using Chrome on either Windows, macOS or a Linux machine, you need to make sure these versions of the browser are not running on your system:
– Google Chrome versions prior to 128.0.6613.119/.120 for Windows and Mac
– Google Chrome versions prior to 128.0.6613.119 for Linux
How To Update Chrome On Windows and Mac
It goes without saying that to protect against these issues, users must download the latest available software update for Google Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux. You can do this by heading over to the three-dot menu on Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome. Google has listed the security fixes that come with the stable channel update.
