Pixel C: Google unveils new Android M convertible; challenges Microsoft Surface, iPad Pro
Unveiled alongside the LG-made Nexus 5X and the Huawei-made Nexus 6P - the Pixel C is the 'first Android tablet built end-to-end by Google.'

While the smartphones hog all the attention, on the sidelines is an interesting battle being fought - that of the hybrids or convertibles. Microsoft Surface appeared to be the champion, till Apple joined in with the iPad Pro and even before the results of the first round could be announced, Google is here with the Pixel C.

Unveiled alongside the LG-made Nexus 5X and the Huawei-made Nexus 6P - the Pixel C is the "first Android tablet built end-to-end by Google."

Google didn't delve into much of the specs of the Pixel C that is scheduled to hit shelves only in time for the holiday season in some of Google's key markets.

"The Pixel C brings together the benefits of a full-size keyboard with the portability of a tablet," says Google. The tablet will be priced at $499 for the 32 GB version and $599 for 64 GB. The detachable keyboard will cost an additional $149 that docks magnetically with the tablet and connects via Bluetooth.

The C in the Pixel C stands for convertible and Google boasts of a 2560x1800 pixel resolution on its 10-inch screen. It also has another C in the spec sheet - USB Type-C.

Google has attempted to keep the key sizes to that of the standard keyboard on laptops and to achieve that has removed some of the less frequently used keys from the physical keyboard and placed them on-screen.

The Pixel C will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Google says it will roll out software updates every 6 weeks.

Google has also demonstrated new features in Android Marshmallow and launched two new variants of the Chromecast media streaming dongle.
