Sony has announced that it’s going to rebrand its Bravia Core app as Sony Pictures Core, and it will be coming to PS5 and PS4 consoles as well. With this new service, PS5 and PS4 owners will be able to rent more than 2,000 movies right on their console.
The list of movies coming to the service includes Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Uncharted, The Equalizer, No Hard Feelings, Bullet Train, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and more.
Moreover, Sony has also revealed that those who have subscribed to PS Plus Premium or Deluxe tiers will get 100 movies as part of their subscriptions for no additional cost. These titles will be available through the “Sony Pictures Core app to stream on demand from the Sony Pictures library as part of your membership,” Sony revealed. And, this catalog will be ad-free and updated regularly. Sony further added that there would be more benefits coming for PS Plus subscribers in the future, such as a selection of anime from Crunchyroll.
The Sony Pictures Core app is available to download across 23 markets globally, and users can find the new app in the media section on PS5 or the PS Store on PS4.
As for availability in India, we checked on our PS5 unit in India, but we can’t see the app. Furthermore, looking for support details, India isn’t listed as one of the supported countries for now on Sony Pictures Core support page.
Notably, this move comes after PlayStation hiked the prices for its PS Plus subscription tiers: Extra, Essential, Deluxe/Premum—across multiple regions, including the US, and this could be one of Sony’s ways to justify the price increase moving forward.
