With the admission process on, students have started to gear up for their all-new college life. From buying new clothes to accessories accompanying them, you can easily spot a soon-to-be fresher on a shopping spree. But what many of them forget to consider is a must-have tech kit that can come handy any time during college life.
This tech kit is comprised of 10 products and you can have it ready for under Rs 10,000.
1. Smartphone (Up to Rs 7,000)
This necessity, obviously, makes it to the number one spot in our list. Simply because, one just can't imagine college life without a phone. While many of you may already have finalised the model, others might still be confused between the short-listed ones. Also, if this is going to be your first phone and you are not willing to spend a fat amount on it, you need not worry. There are a lot of good affordable smartphones for those on a shoestring budget. The Xiaomi Redmi 2, Yu Yuphoria, Moto E (2nd generation) are a few of them that are available for under Rs 7,000. But if you already own a smartphone, you can invest the same amount of money in buying an e-book reader (such as the Amazon Kindle). This could be a great companion for students, especially when travelling.
2. Earphones (Up to Rs 500)
A lot of budget smartphones today do not come with a pair of earphones, which means shelling out an extra sum of money to buy this unavoidable smartphone accessory. Also, if you have lost your existing earphones or have damaged them in any form, it's better to go for a new pair as it is almost an everyday requirement. For a price up to Rs 500, you can grab earphones promising a decent build and quality audio results.
3. Power banks (Up to Rs 600)
A gadget that could come to your rescue anywhere - be it on a bus/train, canteen, or a classroom. Your phone can run out of battery any time, and it's not wise to have your phone running with no or low battery. Therefore, we advise you to keep a power bank in your bag. An online search can give you a wide range of options to choose from. For under Rs 600, you can have a decent power bank with around 5000mAh of battery capacity.
4. Headphone splitter (Up to Rs 50)
Listening to music is good, but it becomes fun when enjoyed with friend(s). This little accessory can help you share your playlist with your friends while going to college or heading back home in the evening? While a plethora of splitters are available across different price points, you can get a decent splitter for a price up to Rs 50.
5. Portable speakers (Up to Rs 500)
Pajama parties are the most common parties to happen during college days. A lot of times, you have no clue as to where you would be heading in the evening post college - to a friend's place or your own house. Therefore, you must always be ready for parties that may not come with prior information. As no party is complete without music being played on speakers, a portable speaker in your bag turns out to be a true party-saver. Or better call it a "chotta packet, bada dhamaal".
6. Aux cable (Up to Rs 30)
Whether you drive to college or are planning a trip with friends, a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable (commonly known as aux cable) becomes a must-have accessory in your tech kit. Many a time, we tend to have a better music collection in our most personal device - the smartphone - than what the FM would be playing or in an external device. Here the aux cable makes the task easy. You can easily purchase one for as low as Rs 30.
7. Pen drive/ CDs (Up to Rs 250)
College life means a lot of notes-taking, online as well as offline. If your college has an online library, chances are you end up emailing yourself all the journals in the limited duration you are allotted and soon the important study material is lost in a pool of emails. Even as there is an option of using cloud storages for the same, a USB pen drive is more reliable and easily discoverable during the study time. However, there are also certain educational institutions which restrict the use of USB pen drives on college computers, the good old CDs can serve as an alternative in such a scenario. An 8GB pen drive will cost you close to Rs 200, while CDs cost as low as Rs 10.
8. Selfie stick (Up to Rs 300)
A dedicated selfie-stick makes to our list of must-have accessories in the tech kit simply because of the sheer comfort and precision it offers to those who love to capture self-portraits. Whether by yourself or at a college fest with a group of friends, a selfie-stick won’t let any of your portraits look shaky or with the not-so-flattering intrusive arm in the frame; all within just Rs 300.
9. Torch (Up to Rs 100)
There are situations when you might have to tread that dim-lit path from your college to the nearest bus stop or metro station on a winter evening and your phone’s battery won’t support torch for long. A separate torch can come to your rescue. Small and compact, a torch costs around Rs 100 and is an intelligent choice for those staying in hostels. They might even require it during power cuts.
10. Others (Up to Rs 200)
Add-on accessories like a zip pouch and a mosquito repellent band is also a wise choice for the quintessential tech kit. A zip pouch will save your smartphone or small items like earphones or charger from getting soaked in the rain, while a mosquito repellent band will prove extremely useful if you are habitual of spending longer hours at the college fields, taking a nap or playing some sport. These additional accessories cost around Rs 200.
