WhatsApp continuously improves user experience by adding new features to its instant messaging platform. The tech giant has introduced a highly anticipated feature called Events for group chats. This new feature aims to streamline the organization of gatherings, meetings and events directly within group chats.
As per a report by WABetaInfo, the feature started rolling out with the WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.24.9.20 update. It will soon be available to other WhatsApp users as part of a wider release. Notably, the feature was initially announced as an addition to Communities, however, it is now making its way to regular group chats on the WhatsApp platform.
How To Use WhatsApp’s New Event Feature
The update allows users to seamlessly create and manage events directly within their chat groups. Users need to click the paperclip icon in the group chat. Now, an additional ‘Event’ icon will be present there that will allow users to create a new event by entering event details like name, date, location, description, details about a voice or video call and others.
Once created, members of the group can accept or reject the event invite, while modifications to the event details can expectedly be made by the creator of that event.
The tipster assures that like everything else on WhatsApp, events in group chats are end-to-end encrypted and only the participants in the conversation will have access to event details, maintaining user privacy and security.
In addition to the Events feature, WhatsApp has also introduced some more features to its platform, including its Meta AI assistant, to users in India directly via WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger.
Furthermore, users will be able to gain insights from Meta AI when browsing through posts in the Facebook app. The Meta AI assistant also includes real-time search results from Google and Microsoft, so it can be used in group chats to obtain real-time information on topics like finding the least crowded way to a destination or planning a trip.
Another update is that users can experience larger group video calls and improved business tools. Previously capped at eight users, the biggest change in the app is the increase in the participant limit for group video calls. Now, WhatsApp calls, on both mobile and desktop, can accommodate up to 32 users, making it convenient for larger groups to connect virtually.
