WhatsApp Users Will Be Able To Make Calls And Send Messages To Other Apps: Will It Come To India?
WhatsApp chats will go through to other apps and eventually calling support will also be available to the users but will it come to all markets?

WhatsApp has billions of users across the globe and India is one of its biggest markets. But the Meta-owned platform is now gearing up for one of the biggest changes in its history. The messaging app will soon allow its users to chat or even make calls to those using other apps. That’s right, third-party interoperability will be available for WhatsApp users as it looks to comply with rules in select regions.

WhatsApp Chats To Other Apps – How It Will Work And When

WhatsApp will be offering the interoperable feature that will let you send chats to people using other messaging apps, and eventually have the power to even call (video or audio) them. These changes are being done by Meta as it looks to comply with the European Union (EU) Digital Markets Act (DMA) that has already gone after Apple, Google and more tech brands. The ruling basically looks to thwart companies like Meta from prioritising their own products, which is why interoperability of WhatsApp is happening.

Meta has even talked about bringing video calls into this umbrella but that will be done in 2027. So, how will the third-party WhatsApp message support work? Meta says it will inform users when the option is available and then allow them to select apps to which they want to send chats or receive it. You will also have the ability to get these chats in the same WhatsApp feed or check them in a separate inbox.

These changes are going to be monumental but WhatsApp users in India might not see the feature available in the region anytime soon, unless something drastically changes over the next few years.

What's your reaction?
