New Delhi: WhatsApp's iOS users will finally be able to place calls over the Internet with the company's latest free calling feature which is now being extended to the Apple platform.

Only a few weeks back, calling on WhatsApp was rolled out for the messaging app's Android users and now the iOS lovers will be able to benefit too. This feature allows you to place calls over the Internet within the app and uses your cellular data instead of your network calling charges.

A report on Tech Crunch notes that not all Apple device users will be able to see the update just yet as the company is rolling out the feature over the next several weeks.

The Facebook-owned company boasts of about 800 million monthly active users and the latest addition of calling feature is expected to upset a lot of carriers worldwide who have already been hit by the decline in their SMS revenues by the coming of WhatsApp-like free messaging apps.

The latest update to the iOS version of WhatsApp also includes primarily support for the iOS 8 share extension which allows you to send videos, photos and links to WhatsApp chats from other apps. You will be able to take photos quickly inside chats, and send multiple videos in one go, which can be cropped or rotated before being shared.

Tapping in the huge popularity WhatsApp enjoys, the messaging service is steadily rolling out a stream of updates making the platform more useful and inclusive than just being a free text message replacement.
