The 13th World Robot Olympiad (WRO) recently concluded at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida. The two-day international championship saw a total of 463 teams participating from 51 countries across the globe. This is the first time that the event was organised in India.
Based on the theme "Rap the Scrap", the event aimed at finding innovative ways to use robotics for efficient waste management. Organised by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) in association with Ministry of Culture and India STEM Foundation (ISF), participants within the age of 9 and 25 presented their skills on robotics.
"This program is designed to engage kids in the learning process. It is all based on hands-on learning. The resources, namely, the hardware and good mentors who can train kids on this, are currently absent in the Indian market. Since learning comes naturally to Indians, if the right measures are taken, we can catch on very fast with the rest of the world," said Sudhanshu Sharma, CEO & Co-Founder, India STEM Foundation.

This team from Kolkata developed a waste segregation machine which efficiently separated bio-degradable and non-bio degradable waste. The machine is connected with an Android app which kept a count on the type of waste.
This team built a waste management system for hospitals with separate transportation systems for different types of waste.
These masterminds built a manoeuvrable robot that can clean water bodies. The collected waste is then transported as per the nature of the waste.
These kids built a robot that locates and picks up Tetra-packs and treats them for recycling. The geniuses intend to use the robot to keep their school clean

A team from Kazakhstan built an Orbital cleaning satellite that uses ultrasonic sensors to detect the debris in space and then destroy it using lasers if deemed right.
