British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty have emerged as a power couple in the last two years. Akshata Murty is a fashion designer and daughter of billionaire Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty. Recently, they spoke to Grazia magazine ahead of International Women’s Day, which is celebrated annually on March 8. During their conversation, the couple spoke about their relationship and how their lives changed ever since Sunak became the Prime Minister of UK in October 2022. In the interview, Murty praised Sunak’s cooking skills and said, “Rishi is the better cook. I do have a great deal of enthusiasm, but Rishi definitely has more talent in that department.”

Sunak added that with his role as the UK’s Prime Minister, he only gets time to make breakfast on Saturdays. Talking about his preferred breakfast dish, he said, “Gordon Ramsay’s scrambled eggs.” During their conversation, the couple said that they try to equally divide household responsibilities. Murty said that she has taken over the charge of their daughters, Anoushka and Krishna’s homework. She explained, “I’m stricter when it comes to things related to school, like getting their homework done, making sure they are reading. Making sure that anything related to school is done well.”

Despite their great chemistry, the couple agreed that they are not similar on all issues. Sunak mentioned that Murty is a fairly messy person which irks him. He jokingly said that sometimes he comes upstairs to their living quarters from his office just to make the bed. The couple lives in 10 Downing Street in London, which is both their residence and Sunak’s office. Sunak said, “You (Murty) just don’t like making the bed and it bugs me. I sometimes come back into the flat from the office after we’ve all left to make the bed because I’ll be irritated if it’s not been made.”

Akshata added that her untidy habits have been annoying Sunak ever since they were dating during their college years. She recalled, “When we were studying, I used to actually eat in my bed. Rishi would come to where I lived. Sometimes there would be plates in my bed.”

Previously in an interview with The Time, Sunak spoke of Akshata’s chaotic habits and said, ‘I’m incredibly tidy, she’s very messy. I’m much more organised, she is more spontaneous. She is not going to love me for saying this but I’ll be honest with you, she is not big on the whole tidying thing. She is a total nightmare, clothes everywhere… and shoes… oh God, shoes!”

The couple first met when they were studying at Stanford University. They got married in August 2009 after dating for five years. They have two daughters.
